Mixed methods data was triangulated to identify, critique and revise how the intervention's essential elements should be articulated and scored. Results: Over 50 provisional elements were refined to a final list of 20 and the scoring rationalised. Six (often overlapping) challenges to the validity of the essential elements were identified. They were (1) redundant-the element was not essential; (2) poorly articulated-unclear, too specific or not specific enough; (3) infeasible-it was not possible to implement the essential element as intended; (4) ineffective-the element did not effectively deliver the change principles; (5) paradoxical-counteracting vital goals or change principles; or (6) absent or suboptimal-additional or more effective ways of operationalising the theory were identified. We also identified potentially valuable 'prohibited' elements that could be used to help reduce threats to validity. Conclusions: We devised a method for critiquing the construct validity of our intervention's essential elements and modifying how they were articulated and measured, while simultaneously using them as fidelity indicators. This process could be used or adapted for other contextualised interventions, taking evaluators closer to making theoretically and contextually sensitive decisions upon which to base fidelity assessments.]]> Wed 11 Apr 2018 14:55:08 AEST ]]> Case conferences in palliative care: a substudy of a cluster randomised controlled trial https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:11193 Wed 11 Apr 2018 13:54:48 AEST ]]> Advancing the evidence base in cancer: psychosocial multicenter trials https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:14385 Wed 11 Apr 2018 13:18:08 AEST ]]> A systematic review of decision aids for patients making a decision about treatment for early breast cancer https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:29914 Wed 11 Apr 2018 11:53:12 AEST ]]> A decision aid for women considering neoadjuvant systemic therapy for operable invasive breast cancer: development and protocol of a phase II evaluation study (ANZ1301 DOMINO) https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:23048 Wed 11 Apr 2018 11:36:49 AEST ]]> Single-arm longitudinal study to evaluate a decision aid for women offered Neoadjuvant systemic therapy for operable breast cancer https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:48826 Tue 09 May 2023 10:38:07 AEST ]]> Patient-reported outcomes with neoadjuvant vs adjuvant systemic therapy for operable breast cancer https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:36683 Thu 17 Feb 2022 09:29:01 AEDT ]]> Exploring women's experiences with a decision aid for neoadjuvant systemic therapy for operable breast cancer https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:34901 Thu 09 Dec 2021 11:04:36 AEDT ]]> Cancer survivorship: research priorities at the national and international fields https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:7113 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:34:11 AEDT ]]> Improving patient emotional functioning and psychological morbidity: evaluation of a consultation skills training program for oncologists https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:7239 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:33:45 AEDT ]]> Beyond scientific rigour: funding cancer research of public value https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:10255 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:13:07 AEDT ]]> Increasing oncologists' skills in eliciting and responding to emotional cues: evaluation of a communication skills training program https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:5242 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:44:19 AEDT ]]> Contralateral prophylactic mastectomy (CPM): a systematic review of patient reported factors and psychological predictors influencing choice and satisfaction https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:30253 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:24:53 AEDT ]]> Exploring decision-making about neo-adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer (letter) https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:24782 The Breast Journal.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:14:06 AEDT ]]> Effect of core versus enhanced implementation strategies on adherence to a clinical pathway for managing anxiety and depression in cancer patients in routine care: a cluster randomised controlled trial https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:51248 Mon 28 Aug 2023 12:32:43 AEST ]]> Development, acceptability and uptake of an on-line communication skills education program targeting challenging conversations for oncology health professionals related to identifying and responding to anxiety and depression https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47963 Mon 13 Feb 2023 15:30:55 AEDT ]]> The emotional impact of COVID-19 on Australian cancer patients, their caregivers, and oncology health professionals over time: A longitudinal qualitative study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:54760 Mon 11 Mar 2024 15:01:46 AEDT ]]> The elusive search for success: defining and measuring implementation outcomes in a real-world hospital trial https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:38006 Fri 23 Jul 2021 15:05:40 AEST ]]> Stakeholder perspectives on the impact of COVID-19 on oncology services: a qualitative study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:54831 Fri 15 Mar 2024 11:54:29 AEDT ]]>
